Habitat For Humanity

On May 18 the Brothers of Iota Nu Chapter worked on a Habitat For Humanity home in Edgewood, MD. The spirit of friendship and Uplift propelled the Brothers to assist a family to fulfill their dream of home ownership. Working together with the crew chief, the Brothers constructed a drop ceiling, installed shelving, bathroom mirrors, and hung a kitchen microwave.

A Day with the Veterans - 2013

A Day with the Veterans

The Brothers of Iota Nu visited the Veterans of Perry Point VA Medical Center to provide an atmosphere of appreciation and goodwill among the Veterans residing in the medical center. We provided food (grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, etc.) and fun to uplift the Veterans’ spirits.  Brothers also spent one-on-one time with individual Veterans learning stories of their services and sharing some stories of their own. Because many of the Veterans were not able to join in the outdoor festivities Iota Nu members took the time to visit the Veterans at their bedsides as well.  With the assistance of the facility’s staff and the Director, it was possible for Iota Nu to further extend a hand of fellowship.

In addition to the abovementioned activities, Iota Nu also provided a chance for the Veterans to get away from the daily routine of the medical center by providing fishing rods and bait to go fishing at the nearby Chesapeake Bay. Though the fish were not biting, the Veterans enjoyed the good weather, time away and the socializing. The Veterans asked that we come back as soon as possible and we promised that we would. Iota Nu is scheduled to visit the Veterans again in November.

Adopt-A-Park and Adopt-A-Highway Programs

The Men of the Iota Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. conducted two initiatives as a part of our mandated programs. Our first initiative began early Saturday morning in Edgewood, MD. We cleaned up the Edgewood Park area by removing large pieces of old furniture, large amounts of trash and broken glass. In doing so, it provided a cleaner and safer environment for children to play in within the community.

Our second initiative, which takes place quarterly, involved our Adopt-A-Highway clean-up. This clean-up takes place on Route 715 and Highway 40 in Aberdeen, MD. While walking over three miles north and south of highway 40, Brothers of Iota Nu safely removed all trash, bottles and other discarded items from the side of the highway, once again, bringing the highway to standards.
